Nelson 200k Challenge – Saturday Oct 1

Congratulations to the 12 riders that started out on the very challenging Nelson 200k on Saturday. It was 39 above at the start and never got above 60 for the day, but it was a great day to be riding the hills and coulees of Wisconsin.

The course took it’s toll as five riders did have various mechanical, tired legs and in one case running out of daylight without lights that kept them from completing the entire ride.  All in all though, everyone enjoyed themselves and gave their legs terrific workout.

Congratulations to the riders on the Apple Valley 600k Fall Classic September 10-11.  The weather was mostly great, but got pretty warm in the middle of the day, and a brisk west wind kept the returning rider’s heads down on Sunday.

Synopsis

RAAM Challenge Race

Congratulations to Lara Sullivan for completing the first Minnesota RAAM (Race Across America) Challenge this past weekend, August 19-20. Lara rode 376 miles in 26:34 on a course that looped around the Twin Cities, starting at Lake Rebecca Park Reserve, passing through Cambridge, North Branch, Somerset, Wi, Wabasha, Northfield and Jordan before returning to Lake Rebecca. She is now RAAM qualified for the third year in a row.

RAAM qualified means that you can enter the full cross country Race Across America. RAAM Challenges are races, with each rider having a support vehicle with them for the whole ride. This makes things easier for the rider as all food, water, etc. is immediately available, but takes a good deal of coordination with the crew members. For Lara’s RAAM Challenge, Ron Pruitt and Rob Welsh crewed.
