124 Paperjack Dr
New Richmond, WI 54017
An excellent, fairly challenging ride through the hills of Western Wisconsin, starting just east of the Twin Cities. The roads are great, this is a fun way to start winding down the randonneur season.
Here are some trip notes
Ride Start: Kwik Trip, 124 Paperjack Dr. (intersection Paperjack Dr. and Hwy 65) New Richmond, WI 54017.
Please park across the street north from Kwik Trip in the large lot.
How to Get Here:
If you are in central or south Twin Cities area, take I94 through Hudson to the Roberts exit. Take Hwy 65 north to New Richmond. Kwik Trip will be on your right just past WalMart.
If you are coming from a northern suburb, take Hwy 36 to Stillwater, cross the bridge and take Hwy 64 to New Richmond. In New Richmond take Hwy 65 south
What You Will See:
Compared to most of our other brevets:
More hills, more valleys, more woods, more wildlife (deer, bear, turkeys, fox, eagles have all been seen), more bars.
Less traffic—much less traffic, less corn.
We ride east out of New Richmond to Glenwood City then south to the first checkpoint in Knapp. The first 11 miles are gently rolling then the hills start.
There is a change from last year’s route as you leave checkpoint #1 in Knapp. We climb immediately starting in town and then encounter a tricky downhill that will require caution. We have eliminated the unpaved mile and have chosen a different big climb. Instead of 160th Street, we will ascend 700th, still a big climb but not quite as steep.
My favorite long downhill starts just after mile 48. Relax and enjoy it.
At mile 67.5 there will be an informational checkpoint. The answer you are looking for will be on the brick building on the right.
